How to Have a Good Conversation | Celeste Headlee | TEDxCreativeCoast
When your job hinges on how well you talk to people, you learn a lot about how to have great conversations – and most of us don’t converse very well. A great conversation requires a balance between talking and listening. This balance is important because bad communication leads to bad relationships, at home, at work, everywhere. Celeste Headlee has worked in public radio since 1999, as a reporter, host, and correspondent. She was the Midwest Correspondent for NPR before becoming the co-host of the PRI show The Takeaway. She also guest hosted a number of NPR shows including Tell Me More, Talk of the Nation, Weekend All Things Considered, and Weekend Edition. Celeste holds multiple degrees in music and still performs as a professional opera singer. She's the granddaughter of composer William Grant Still, the Dean of African American Composers. Celeste is an avid hiker, biker, paddler and dog walker. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. "If we can learn to trust one another more, we can have unprecedented human progress," Frei says. Visit http://TED.com to get our entire library of TED Talks, transcripts, translations, personalized talk recommendations and more. Simon Sinek presents a simple but powerful model for how leaders inspire action, starting with a golden circle and the question "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers -- and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling. Esther Perel on Workplace Dynamics | SXSW 2019
What Business Leaders Can Learn About Workplace Dynamics from Couples Therapy Navigating relationships and cultivating relational fluency is key- both personally and professionally. Each of us carries specific narratives which guide our needs and expectations - how we connect to others, how we define trust, and how we engage or avoid conflict. Most importantly, these inner stories determine how we communicate and elicit curiosity and collaboration. We don't magically become different people when we walk into our office. Once considered a “soft skill” in the workplace, relational intelligence is now one of the top currencies of business success. Famed couples therapist Esther Perel has spent more than 35 years helping people articulate their aspirations, explore boundaries between self and others, and repair trust that is broken. Now she’s applying her extensive knowledge of relationships to help us master the art of modern leadership. This session and others are available for listening on the SXSW Sessions Podcast here: https://link.chtbl.com/directesther About SXSW: SXSW dedicates itself to helping creative people achieve their goals.
